Dube’s Hat-Trick Propels Storm To Win
Dube’s Hat Trick Propels Storm Into Series Lead With Sicamous
KAMLOOPS, BC—Braycen Dube’s first junior hockey hat trick proved to be the difference aa the Kamloops Storm have moved into the driver’s seat in their Kootenay International Junior Hockey League playoff series.
Dube’s (Cranbrook, BC) three goals paced the Storm to a 6-1 win over the visiting Sicamous Eagles on Friday night (Mar 1). Kamloops now leads the best of seven affair 3-2 going back to Sicamous for game six on Saturday (Mar 2).
Dube scored his first two goals in the second period and added the hat trick goal on the power play in the third period. Two of his goals were scored with the man advantage. He now has five points in the five playoff contests.
Kamloops led 1-0 after the opening 20 minutes on a goal from Brendan Green (Clearwater, BC). The Storm was up 3-0 after two periods.
Other Kamloops goals came from Evan Douglas (West Kelowna, BC) and Keenan Conn (Beaumont, AB). Ryan Larson (Kamloops, BC) and Loch Stefanishyn (Pinawa, MB) had two assists.
Josh Missfeldt (Edmonton, AB) broke Kamloops goaltender Colton Phillips-Watts (Quesnel, BC)’s shutout bid at 7:45 of the third period. He got credit for a goal when the puck bounced off the back of a Kamloops defender and into the net.
Dylan Marshall (Saskatoon, SK) started in goal for Sicamous but had to leave the game at the 4:50 mark of the third period after getting caught in the net. He was favoring his left leg as he was escorted off the ice. Gabe Bergeron (Calgary, AB) finished up in the Eagles nets.
Game six of the series is set for 7 PM PST in Sicamous Saturday. Should a seventh game be needed, it would be played in Kamloops on Monday (Mar 4th) at 7 PM PST.
The winner of this series will meet the Revelstoke Grizzlies in the Birks Division Final. That series would start next week in Revelstoke.
