Grizzlies Outduel Storm In Final KIJHL Clash of Regular Season
REVELSTOKE, BC—The Kamloops Storm gave up three goals in the first period and wound up dropping a 5-3 decision to the host Revelstoke Grizzlies in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League play on Friday (Feb 9).
It was the final regular season meeting between the two clubs, who could possibly meet in the KIJHL playoffs.
The Storm trailed 3-1 after the first period and were down 4-1 at one point before scoring twice to cut the deficit to 4-3 after two. The Grizzlies added an insurance goal in the last minute of the hockey game.
Revelstoke won three of the five regular season meetings between the two teams this season.
Kamloops got goals from Devin Benson (Kamloops, BC) in the first period. Ty Horner (Kamloops, BC) and Lochlan Stefanishyn (Pinawa, MB) in the second period. Nathan Bohmer (Logan Lake, BC) had two assists for the Storm.
Grizzlies goals came off the sticks of David Ander (Calgary, AB), Colton McLeod (Whistler, BC), Mikkel Hrechka (Moose Jaw, SK), Jett Patola (Calgary, AB) and Nicholas Buckley (Calgary, AB).
Colton Phillips-Watts (Quesnel, BC) stopped 35 shots while Jozef Kuchaslo (Mission,BC) handled 31 pucks in goal for Revelstoke. Both goalies played every game in the regular season series. Phillips-Watts record falls to 18-9 while Kuchaslo is now 17-8.
In this contest, The Grizzlies were 1-3 on the power play while the Storm were 0-6.
Kamloops captain Evan Clark (Kamloops, BC) was held off the scoresheet breaking his seven-game point streak. He had 11 points during that time. Jake Phillips-Watts (Quesnel, BC) was also scoreless, breaking his three-game point streak.
The Storm move into 100 Mile House on Saturday (Feb 10) to meet the Wranglers. While Revelstoke entertains Chase on Saturday (Feb 10).
Kamloops is unbeaten in four starts against the Wranglers. Those two teams will close out the KIJHL regular season on Saturday February 17th also in the South Cariboo
