NDP MLA Melanie Mark says new infrastructure funding a boost for community services

MLA Brenda Bailey says funding will help grow local music industry in Vancouver

February 7, 2024 at 5:20 pm  Politics, Provincial

VANCOUVER – MLA Brenda Bailey says that funding announced today will help B.C.-based musicians to develop their careers and grow the local music industry.

“Vancouver is home to so many great musicians and we are thrilled to help support more artists develop their careers and talents,” said Brenda Bailey, MLA for Vancouver-False Creek. “With this funding, more emerging artists can continue to create new art and entertain crowds.”

Over $3.3 million is being distributed to hundreds of artists and companies for career development, live music events, business development, industry initiatives, and attracting out-of-province talent to record in B.C.

In Vancouver, recipients include:

Career development stream:

  • Madalen Duke, $25,000
  • Nostalgix, $25,000
  • Marianas Trench, $15,000
  • Five Alarm Funk, $10,000

Music industry initiatives stream:

  • Vancouver International Film Festival Amp Festival, $35,000
  • Jade Music Festival, $35,000

Live music stream:

  • Vancouver Folk Music Festival Society, $35,000
  • Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, $32,000
  • Public Disco Society $23,347
  • Birdhouse Up & Up Drag and Music Festival, $14,000
  • Rickshaw Theatre Sound Treatment Program, $14,040
  • Happyland, $5,000

More than 200 musicians and music companies will benefit from this funding, which is part of the New Democrat government’s $7.5 million investment in 2023 to develop and support musician’s careers and promote the music industry here in B.C. This is one of the many ways the government is supporting creative industries and creative professionals in the province.
