LANGLEY – New Democrat MLA Andrew Mercier says that funding announced today will help a local fire department to educate and protect more people and structures in the community.

“Langley City Fire Rescue does so much for people here and I’m glad we can contribute to their public education efforts to reduce fire risk in the community,” said Andrew Mercier, MLA for Langley. “I am so grateful for all the first responders in Langley who work tirelessly to keep us safe.”

Langley City Fire Rescue is receiving $25,927.80 for their Community Risk Reduction through Public Education and Wildfire Training program.

Through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF), the provincial government is providing more than $6.2 million for 122 local projects, benefiting more than 200 volunteer and composite fire departments across B.C. Composite fire departments are those that have a mix of staff and volunteers.

Since 2017, more than $17 million has been provided to volunteer and composite fire departments through the CEPF for additional equipment and training.
