KAMLOOPS, BC—The Kamloops Storm capped off a tough three games-in-three nights portion of their Kootenay International Junior Hockey League season on a big note.
The Storm beat the defending KIJHL champion and Eddie Mountain Division leading Kimberley Dynamiters 4-1 Sunday night (Jan 7) on the Olympic Ice Surface at McArthur Island.
It was the first time in two years that the Storm have beaten Kimberley.
The Storm got two power play goals from Loch Stefanishyn (Pinawa, MB) en route to the victory. Stefanishyn — in his first year with Kamloops — has a team leading 14 goals.
Ty Horner (Kamloops, BC) and Evan Clark (Kamloops, BC) had the other goals for Kamloops. Sunday’s game was Clarks 100th career game in the KIJHL. Devin Benson (Kamloops,BC) had an assist in the game-extending his league leading point scoring streak to 13 games.
Kamloops kept KIJHL leading scorer Tristen Weill (West Kelowna, BC) off the scoresheet. The Storm outshot Kimberley 33-31. Colton Phillips Watts (Quesnel, BC) notched the win in goal for Kamloops. He has a record of 13-7-0-1. Matt Fleet (Calgary, AB) was in goal for the Dynamiters, who will host the Fred Cyclone Taylor Cup later this spring.
Kamloops moves to 22-8-0-1 on the season but remains a point behind of second place Revelstoke in the Doug Birks Division. The Grizzlies were 4-1 winners in Castlegar on Sunday (Jan7). Revelstoke has two games in hand on the Storm.
Saturday (Jan 6), Kamloops fell 3-1 to the Princeton Posse at Mac Isle. Clark scoring the lone goal for the Storm on Saturday. Friday (Jan 5), Kamloops went to 100 Mile House and beat the Wranglers 4-1 getting goals from Nolan MacPherson (Prince George, BC), Braycen Dube (Cranbrook, BC), Benson and Stefanishyn had the others. Dawson Holitzki (Kelowna, BC) stopped 27 shots for his eighth straight victory.
Next game for the Storm is Friday (Jan 12th) in Princeton. Their next home game is Saturday, Jan 13th at Mac Isle against Chase. It’s the final matchup between those two geographical rivals this KIJHL season.
