MLAs Chen, Chouhan and Routledge say grants will support local arts and extracurricular activities in Burnaby
Burnaby – New Democrat MLAs Katrina Chen, Raj Chouhan and Janet Routledge say local organizations and parent advisory councils will be able to support young artists and extracurricular activities thanks to over $1.5 million in Community Gaming Grants funding. This round of funding is from the Community Gaming Grants program’s arts and culture stream and parent advisory council and district parent advisory council (PAC/DPAC) stream.
“Arts and culture are integral to the fabric of our community,” says Katrina Chen, MLA for Burnaby-Lougheed. “This funding will support a diverse range of artistic expressions that flourish in our community, contributing to our cultural identity and providing meaningful experiences for residents of all ages.”
In Burnaby, eight organizations are receiving over $167,000 in funding to support arts and culture, including:
- Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Society, $50,000
- Burnaby Lyric Opera Society, $15,000
- Scandinavian Community Centre Society, $36,000
- Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Society of British Columbia, $25,000
- Vancouver Finlandia Club, $29,000
Additionally, 51 parent advisory councils/district parent advisory councils in Burnaby are receiving over $1.4 million in total funding to support extracurricular events, activities and equipment.
“Our parent advisory councils play a crucial role in shaping the educational landscape for our children,” says Janet Routledge, MLA for Burnaby North. “This investment will empower Burnaby’s PACs to create vibrant and inclusive communities within our schools where every student can thrive beyond the classroom.”
“This funding will empower our parent advisory councils to continue their invaluable work, fostering a sense of community and providing diverse opportunities for our students,” says Raj Chouhan, MLA for Burnaby-Edmonds. “Together, we’re enhancing the overall educational experience for our children.”
More than $18.2 million in new funding will go to over 650 organizations to support arts and culture across the province.
More than 1,300 parent advisory councils and district parent advisory councils will also receive over $11.2 million to support extracurricular activities throughout British Columbia.
