Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

“On Holodomor Memorial Day, we remember the millions of innocent people in Ukraine who lost their lives during a man-made famine and genocide that occurred in Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 under the rule of Joseph Stalin’s totalitarian Soviet regime.

Despite this cruelty, Ukrainians have been resilient in preserving their culture, language, and identity. They persevered to win their independence in 1991 after almost 70 years under Soviet control.

Let today be a tribute to remember the victims and honour their courage to share their stories and resist authoritarian rule. Let’s come and stand together to ensure that these atrocities never happen again.”
