Micro-Credential Stacking and Laddering Final Report webinar:
Assessment of micro-credentials in BC for post-secondary institution credit

TRU Open Learning’s Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) team received funding in February, 2023, from the BC Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills (PSFS) for a pioneering pilot project. The Micro-Credential Stacking and Laddering Assessment Pilot Project’s goal was to explore a repeatable process for assessing micro-credentials in BC’s public post-secondary institutions for possible credit.

Micro-credentials: short-term, skill-based learning opportunities that are meeting the high demands of the job market and community needs.

The Micro-credential Assessment Committee (MCAC), which includes eight senior representatives from BC post-secondary institutions, the British Columbia Council on Admission and Transfer (BCCAT) and the Ministry, conducted a comprehensive two-phase assessment of ten provincially funded micro-credentials. These micro-credentials were granted to institutions with the potential for academic credit. The MCAC’s objective was to develop and test a rigorous evaluation process.

Join Susan Forseille, director of PLAR at TRU, and David Porter, principal consultant from DP+Associates, for a showcase of the successful project’s findings. Discover the report’s outcomes and recommendations for establishing sustainable and replicable processes to enhance skill validation within post-secondary institutions.

If you are involved in micro-credential development and want to explore assessment opportunities, don’t miss this ground-breaking report.
