Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on foreign interference, firearms bill concerns – May 12, 2023

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau takes questions from the media in Nain, Newfoundland and Labrador, where he is attending a meeting of the Inuit-Crown Partnership Committee. Trudeau is the first sitting prime minister to visit Nunatsiavut, an autonomous Inuit region in Labrador. The prime minister faces questions on a new a Globe and Mail report that says the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) had Chinese diplomat Zhao Wei on its radar for three years and shared this intelligence information with Global Affairs Canada. He also comments on housing concerns in the North and local concerns around Bill C-21, the federal government’s firearms legislation.
