Fran by Kevin Mulligan
This piece was written in loving memory of his grandmother by Kamloops-born composer Kevin Mulligan. Kevin writes about the piece:
“Fran is written for my late nana, Frances Rogliano who lived 1932-2017. The piece is a vignette of sorts on her life. She had 3 daughters, one of whom is my mother, and many grandchildren, and she lived for music. She loved classical pieces and old classic tunes, and she would attend every concert, music session, service, and pub night in her care home. My brother and I would play for her and sing in church with her, and she was always unabashedly proud of our musical accomplishments. Woven into the piece are two hymns that hold meaning for her and for my family. The piece ends with a true verse of Amazing Grace, after the music carries through all the pain and strength, suffering and resilience.”
