“As an artist, i practice in a variety of different mediums and subjects. If you come and see my exhibition, you’ll see how many different subjects i study in art and how you can’t simply connect my pieces together fluidly like other artists may be able to. I am constantly trying different things and experimenting with my artistic process. I have only been practicing art seriously for the last 5 or so years, so I’m still trying to find a technique or a practice that clicks with me. In my journey of finding that, it reflects in my artwork when you look and see that one painting and one drawing seem to sit on entirely different sides of an artistic spectrum.”
Shay Paul is a contemporary artist and graphic designer living in Tk’emlups te Secwepemc unceded territory. She is a 20-year-old, self-taught artist and although she has always enjoyed drawing, she has only been practicing art seriously for the last 6 years. Her art style and content is varied as she practices in many different mediums, but her favoured art style is drawing with ink. She has put on two independent, self-organized exhibitions and is the project director of the Indigenous Resurgence Project.
When she’s not creating art, she is volunteering her time in various circles to better indigenous livelihoods. Her studies and her volunteer work have taken her all over the country, from facilitating conferences in some of the biggest cities, to working face to face with rural indigenous communities in the north. No matter what she finds herself doing, art is always a part of her life and is one of her most cherished passions.

About Kamloops Courthouse Gallery
The Kamloops Courthouse Gallery is a non-profit, co-operative art gallery which was founded in 2007 by a small group of dedicated artists from the Kamloops area. Today, the Gallery and Gift Shop are managed by a growing group of artists offering a wide range of talents and skills.
The purpose of the gallery is to provide a venue for member artists to sell their work while offering the community an opportunity to experience different forms of visual and functional art. Our objectives are to provide continuing support for the co-op and its membership through the gift shop and by organizing artisan fairs in the Old Courthouse.
Another objective is to provide education by offering demonstrations and workshops for those interested in learning a new art form.
We are dedicated to creating an enriching and cultural experience for both residents and visitors of Kamloops, as well as the people of British Columbia. Culture, Art, Community and Prosperity all become a reality as a result of this initiative. We are located in the historic “Old Kamloops Courthouse” which we share with the Kamloops Community Arts Council and Arnica.
The Kamloops Courthouse Gallery Gift Shop boasts an unmatched selection of media and styles including pottery, jewelry, glass art, paintings, scupture and fibre art to suit the tastes of casual shoppers as well as serious collectors.
