COMOX VALLEY  New Democrat MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard says that emergency response and recovery efforts will be strengthened with funding for local emergency operations centres in the Comox Valley.

“In times of extreme weather events, it’s important that we show up for one another in our communities,” says Ronna-Rae Leonard, MLA for Courtenay-Comox. “The Hosting with Humility project will build upon the climate preparedness work our government is doing and ensure that no one is left behind.”

Comox Valley Regional District is receiving for $150,000 for their Hosting with Humility project.

Nearly $3 million in funding from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF) is going to over 100 local governments and First Nations across B.C. The funding will assist in purchasing and installing equipment and supplies to maintain or improve emergency operations centres.

Emergency operations centres are an essential part of emergency response, where representatives come together to coordinate actions and resources, and to support people responding on the ground.
