PARKSVILLE  New Democrat MLA Adam Walker says that emergency response and recovery efforts will be strengthened with funding for local emergency operations centres in Parksville-Qualicum.

“People in our community come together to support each other in the face of emergencies, and we want local governments to have the tools they need to keep everyone safe,” said Adam Walker, MLA for Parksville-Qualicum. “That’s why we’re supporting Parksville and Qualicum Beach’s joint training to better respond to emergencies and serve the people in these communities.”

Parksville is receiving $34,040 for their regional 2023 EOC training program focussed on wind events causing significant power outages, with Qualicum Beach as a regional partner.

Nearly $3 million in funding from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF) is going to over 100 local governments and First Nations across B.C. The funding will assist in purchasing and installing equipment and supplies to maintain or improve emergency operations centres.

Emergency operations centres are an essential part of emergency response, where representatives come together to co-ordinate actions and resources, and to support people responding on the ground.
