TRU Law hosted this year’s Access to Justice Week BC (A2J) with events that touched on Indigenous rights, drug-treatment courts and failures of the welfare and disability benefits systems.

A2J Week took place Feb. 6-10 and involved all three BC law schools: TRU, UBC and University of Victoria. It was marked by The Honourable Chief Justice Robert Bauman and the Canadian Bar Association.

A2J Week has taken place annually in BC since 2018. As this year’s host, the TRU Faculty of Law provided a standout set of events and programs that included a virtual presentation from Myrna McCallum, host of The Trauma-Informed Lawyer podcast; a question-and-answer period with self-represented litigant and Indigenous rights defender Jeremy Matson; an event with Amici Curiae Friends of Court society featuring volunteer legal professional Emily Quinn and The Honourable Justice R. Groves; and a presentation about Drug-Treatment Courts from The Honourable Judge Jim Ogle. The week wrapped with a screening and discussion of the 2016 A2J film I, Daniel Blake.

TRU Law students have led the way for A2J Week, with members of the A2J Club hosting events every year since it began.
