COMOX VALLEY– New Democrat MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard is welcoming a $3.8 million provincial investment that will connect more households to high-speed broadband in ten communities on and around Vancouver Island, including the Forbidden Plateau.

“Connecting the province ensures every British Columbian can have access to similar quality of high-speed internet services no matter where they live,” said Ronna-Rae Leonard, MLA for Courtenay-Comox. “Connectivity expansion projects like this one benefiting people in the Forbidden Plateau area of the Comox Valley help ensure all people have equal access to high-speed internet in their communities, whether you live in a remote area or just next to an urban centre.”

These projects will connect over 1800 households to broadband, unlocking better, faster, and more reliable access to digital services and opportunities. Residents of these rural communities can count on better online access to jobs, education, training, virtual healthcare, and more.

This provincial investment comes from the Connecting British Columbia Fund, in addition to $3.3 million from the Federal Government, and nearly $4 million in other funding. Other funding partners include Telus Communications Inc. and CityWest Cable & Telephone Corp.
