NDP MLA Jennifer Rice recognizes local leader honoured for community safety achievements in North Coast
BELLA BELLA – New Democrat MLA Jennifer Rice is recognizing Mary Brown for her work supporting crime prevention and community safety, with a focus on transformative Indigenous-led approaches.
“Mary Brown’s work is not only restorative but transformative, especially for Heiltsuk youth,” said Jennifer Rice, MLA for North Coast. “The sustainable solutions she created will positively impact her community for generations. I am so happy her dedication and hard work are being recognized with the Restorative Justice Award.”
The awards acknowledge individuals, non-profit organizations and justice and community partners for their work in advancing crime prevention, restorative justice, support for vulnerable people and other initiatives that keep our communities safer. These efforts support provincial initiatives in crime prevention, victim services and policing.
The Community Safety and Crime Prevention Award for Restorative Justice was presented to Mary Brown in North Coast. Other recipients of the award were:
- Shawn Bayes, Vancouver, CEO, Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver
- Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness, Victoria
- Lovepreet Brar, Surrey, Family Liaison Victim Services Manager, RCMP Integrated Homicide Investigation Team
- Sk’ai Zeh Yah Youth Centre, Prince George
