The Liberals must urgently act to protect our Universal Public Health Care system « Canada’s NDP

NDP Health Critic, Don Davies issued the following statement:

“Emergency rooms across Canada are closing because there is not enough staff to keep them open.

Everywhere, health professionals are burned out and leaving the profession. The result is Canadians are waiting 10 to 20 hours to receive care. Tragically, too many didn’t get it and died. This is a completely unacceptable situation for a G7 nation.

And it doesn’t have to be this way. The problems are obvious, and the solutions are clear. We need political will, cooperation, and accountability from all actors. And we need national leadership to protect our Universal Public Health Care system.

The Prime Minister must urgently sit down with the premiers and territorial leaders to negotiate stable, sufficient, and long-term federal health care funding to support health care workers and save Canadians’ lives.

New Democrats will keep pressuring the Liberals to act until this crisis is effectively resolved.”
