Andrew Furey, the premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, announces that his government is adding five seats to the Family Medicine Residency Program at Memorial University for international medical graduates. The new addition is intended to increase the supply of physicians in the province by providing a pathway for international graduates to return to Canada to practice medicine. Joining the premier are Tom Osborne, the minister of health and community services, Dr. Sohaib Al-Asaaed, a postgraduate dean for medical education, and Dr. Mikaela Murphy, a second-year family medicine resident.
