Federal and Manitoba governments announce $538M for Winnipeg transit infrastructure – July 7, 2022

At a news conference in Winnipeg, federal, provincial, and municipal politicians announce nearly $538 million in funding for six transit projects for the city. The new projects include a redesign of the Winnipeg Transit network, the purchase of nearly 100 electric and 135 diesel buses, and the construction of a new energy efficient bus storage and maintenance facility. Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson, Manitoba Labour Minister Reg Helwer, and Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman are in attendance alongside Kevin Lamoureux (the Liberal MP for Winnipeg North and parliamentary secretary to the government House leader) and Terry Duguid (the Liberal MP for Winnipeg South and parliamentary secretary to the minister of environment and climate change).
