Federal government launches new carbon offset program – June 8, 2022

June 8, 2022 at 9:59 am  Federal, Politics

Federal Environment and Climate Change Minister Steven Guilbeault holds a virtual news conference for the launch of Canada’s greenhouse gas offset credit system. He is joined by Patrick Weiler (the MP for West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country), Carole Saab (CEO of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities), and Jacques Benoit (national vice-president of business and strategy development at WSP Global Inc). The program will encourage voluntary projects across Canada to decrease or remove emissions. Projects will be awarded one offset credit for every tonne of carbon dioxide that is reduced. The federal government has pledged to reduce emissions 40 to 45 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030.
