Liberal MP Salma Zahid launches consultations for her private member's bill – June 6, 2022

June 6, 2022 at 9:03 am  Federal, Politics

At a news conference in Ottawa, Liberal MP Salma Zahid announces the launch of public consultations for a private member’s bill she intends to introduce in the House of Commons this fall. The bill would enshrine in law a “duty of candour” for CSIS and Justice Canada lawyers in their dealings with the courts. The “duty of candour” calls on the lawyers in question to identify and disclose all relevant facts regarding judicial warrants related to national security investigations. Zahid is joined by Mustafa Farooq (CEO, National Council of Canadian Muslims), Sheikh Navaid Aziz (Islamic Information Society of Calgary), Nuzhat Jafri (executive director, The Canadian Council of Muslim Women) and Mahmuda Khan (executive director, Human Concern International).
