Liberals continue to fail climate promises and fighting the climate emergency « Canada’s NDP

NDP Environment and Climate Change Critic Laurel Collins made the following statement:

“The Environment Commissioner released another series of scathing reports that were clear – the Liberal government continues to fail on its climate promises. After years of promising Canadians better, more secure environment – the Liberals have failed to deliver.

With the carbon pricing, the Liberals have done nothing to reduce the burden faced by Indigenous communities and small businesses – but have helped give a pass to the richest corporations. Leaving behind people and the planet.

With climate ready infrastructure, the Liberals have no way to track projected emissions and have never reported publicly on the expected climate change outcomes of its infrastructure funding programs – because they themselves don’t know the outcomes.

And with the use of hydrogen to reduce greenhouse emissions, the Liberal government used unrealistic assumptions for modelling, relying on non-existent policy and assumptions to address the climate crisis.

Canadians expect their government to be a leader against the climate crisis, but today’s reports show that the Liberals are failing our communities in their failure to fight the climate emergency.

Canadian workers and their families need to see real supports to create good jobs that fight the climate crisis. And they need their government to actually act with urgency. New Democrats will continue to fight for a safer, more secure, and cleaner future for all Canadians.”
