Stankoven Nominated for Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy – Kamloops Blazers

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today the 2021-22 Division nominees for the Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy presented by Westland Insurance, awarded annually to the WHL Humanitarian of the Year.

WHL Division Awards are voted upon by General Managers.

All individual WHL Division Award winners will be eligible for the overall WHL Awards, to be announced June 1, 2022.

WHL Humanitarian of the Year Nominees
B.C. Division – Logan Stankoven (Kamloops, B.C.) – Kamloops Blazers
Central Division – Luke Prokop (Edmonton, Alta.) – Edmonton Oil Kings
East Division – Conor Geekie (Strathclair, Man.) – Winnipeg ICE
U.S. Division – Graham Sward (Abbotsford, B.C.) – Spokane Chiefs

WHL Humanitarian of the Year Nominee Biographies

Forward Conor Geekie (Winnipeg ICE): For the second consecutive season, Geekie has been an Ambassador for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Manitoba. In a joint initiative between the ICE and corporate partner 24-7 Intouch, every goal scored by Geekie comes with $100 donated to help Manitoba youth and families in need. He has volunteered his time coaching young hockey and baseball players, is a regular contributor in classrooms through the Club’s “Reading with the ICE” virtual reading program, and represents the ICE at the Special Olympics Golf Tournament and Gala.

Defenceman Luke Prokop (Edmonton Oil Kings): Prokop inspired the hockey community and the LGBTQ2S+ community in a groundbreaking way on July 19, 2021 when he came out as the first openly gay player signed to an NHL contract. A Nashville Predators prospect, Prokop has since worked tirelessly to fight for inclusion in hockey and across sport.

Forward Logan Stankoven (Kamloops Blazers): The hometown star from Kamloops served as a spokesperson for the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and also serves as the Blazers ambassador for Hockey Gives Blood, helping to raise over $10,000 in support of the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation through three different campaigns.

Defenceman Graham Sward (Spokane Chiefs): Sward took the initiative on two charitable endeavours this season, starting with his personal Movember campaign in support of men’s health and cancer research. After setting a modest goal of $700, Sward managerd to generate over $3,000 in support of men’s health and cancer research. As an Ambassador for Hockey Gives Blood, Sward took the initiative to lead a blood drive in his hometown of Abbotsford, B.C.
