NDP MP Niki Ashton discusses her bill to re-focus federal funds on climate project – April 6, 2022

April 6, 2022 at 9:50 am  Federal, Politics

On Parliament Hill, NDP MP Niki Ashton holds a news conference ahead of the first hour of debate on her bill that seeks to change the mandate of the Canada Infrastructure Bank. If passed, Bill C-245 would allow the federal government to leverage public ownership and investment through the bank to prioritize projects that adapt to or mitigate climate change. The bill would also require the bank’s board to have at least three members recommended by Indigenous organizations to represent Inuit, Métis and First Nations people. Ashton also responds to questions about the upcoming federal budget and potential investments for Indigenous housing.
