Former MP Leona Alleslev announces Conservative leadership bid – April 6, 2022

At a news conference on Parliament Hill, former Conservative MP and deputy leader Leona Alleslev announces her candidacy for leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada. In 2018, Allesev crossed the floor from the Liberals to sit as a Conservative MP. She joins joins Conservative MPs Pierre Poilievre, Leslyn Lewis, Scott Aitchison, and Marc Dalton, former federal Progressive Conservative leader Jean Charest, former federal Conservative candidate Joel Etienne, Ontario independent MPP Roman Baber, businesspeople Joseph Bourgault and Bobby Singh, and former Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Patrick Brown in the race to succeed Erin O’Toole as Conservative leader.
