Groups urge greater federal action on online hate and genocide education – April 5, 2022

April 5, 2022 at 6:55 am  Federal, Politics

Representatives of various human rights organizations speak with reporters on Parliament Hill to call on the federal government to take more action to tackle online hate and promote genocide education. They also mark the seventh anniversary of the House of Commons designating April as Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month. The groups call for legislation to address online misinformation and the re-establishment of an all-party parliamentary group on genocide prevention. They also want the federal government to cancel the refugee status document requirement and accelerate applications for refugees fleeing conflict. Taking part in the news conference are representatives from the Armenian National Committee of Canada; the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA); Romanipe; the Rwandan Humura Association; the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC); the Rohingya Human Rights Network; and the Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project. They are joined by Liberal MP Ali Ehsassi.
