Fundraising Dinner for Refugee Sold Out

March 15, 2022 at 10:40 am  Kamloops

RAFT would like to thank the people of Kamloops for their overwhelming support. Our fundraising event hosted through the “Colombo Cares – Take Home Dinner” has SOLD OUT.

“In addition to selling 300 tickets equivalent to 600 meals, RAFT has been flooded with offers to help. We really see a strong interest from our community in bringing refugees to the Kamloops area.” -Nancy Bepple, Chair of the RAFT Board of Directors

Refugee issues are top of mind for many Kamloopsians at this time and many are looking for ways to help directly.

RAFT intends to start the sponsorship process for settling one family in Kamloops beginning next month. The government of Canada controls which refugees receive permission to come to Canada. RAFT will support wherever the family will come from, whether it is from Ukraine, Afghanistan or another part of the world.

Donations made to RAFT cannot be designated towards supporting refugees of a particular nationality, but with 26 million refugees worldwide (according to the UNHCR), the need is enormous. RAFT’s priority after sponsoring a first family, will be to raise additional funds with an aim to initiating one or more further sponsorships in 2022.
