PM Trudeau announces additional sanctions in response to Russian invasion of Ukraine – Feb. 24, 2022

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau holds a news conference on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to discuss Canada’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He is joined by Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, as well as ministers Anita Anand (national defence) and Mélanie Joly (foreign affairs). The prime minister announces Canada is imposing further sanctions, which will target 58 Russian individuals and entities. Canada is also revoking all export permits to Russia and cancelling existing permits. The prime minister announces as well that Canada has arranged for the safe passage of any Canadian citizens, permanent residents and their families in Ukraine through land borders with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova.
