Indigenous Awareness Week – TRU Newsroom

February 22, 2022 at 7:29 am  Education, Kamloops, News

Indigenous Awareness Week (IAW) honours our first house Tk’emlups te Secwepemc and provides the TRU community opportunities to learn about Indigenous people, cultures, histories, and stories of the local Secwepemc people and other Indigenous nations. IAW is a week that has a lot of fun and interactive events and encourages a greater understanding of Indigenous peoples, as well as provides learning opportunities about First Nations, Metis and Inuit topics.

These events create a space for diverse Indigenous voices and perspectives. We are hosting some of these events in partnership with Tk’emlups te Secwepemc, Elders, local Indigenous community members, students and colleagues from across the university.

All events are FREE, however, some events may have limited space.   COVID 19 Mask regulations are still in effect for all on-campus events. No pre-registration is necessary.

Please note two of the events are virtual:

  1. Wednesday, March 2, 2022 @ 12:00 – 1:15 pm                  Communication through Story Telling with Laura Grizzlypaws
  2. Friday, March 4, 2022 @ 3:30 – 5:00 pm                               Indigenous Speakers Series: Secwepemc Entrepreneurs. Guest Speakers: Ed Jensen, Julie John and June Anthony-Reeves
