McArthur Island Pathway Upgrades Complete

December 2, 2021 at 9:48 am  Kamloops, Municipal, News

In addition to a freshly paved road, new playground and upgrades at the disc golf course, McArthur Island can add a new accessible pathway to its list of improvements this year.

Work began in October to upgrade the existing dike along the Rivers Trail on McArthur Island between 12th Street and Mackenzie Avenue as part of flood mitigation work. The trail, which was previously a gravel route, is now fully paved and 3-meters wide, allowing for enjoyment by those of all ages and abilities.

“Over the last two years, we’ve put a lot of work into upgrading McArthur Island, and part of that was repaving the multi-use pathway to make it accessible for everyone. This last section completes the paved circuit around the park,” commented Jeff Putnam, Parks and Facilities Manager for the City.

Crews will be back in the spring to complete the landscape restoration.
