Government of Canada’s Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy – Call for Proposals

The City of Kamloops is issuing a call for proposals for eligible projects under the Government of Canada’s Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy (Reaching Home).

Reaching Home is a community-based program aimed at preventing and reducing homelessness across Canada. This program provides direct funding to urban, Indigenous, rural, and remote communities to help them address their local homelessness needs. The community-based approach additionally fosters strong collaboration amongst local not-for-profit organizations and with the City.

The City is the Reaching Home community entity and is responsible for administering and managing federal Reaching Home funding for the Designated Communities stream. The City also works closely with an advisory board and various community partners to help ensure funding is allocated where it is most needed.

“The Community Advisory Board does an outstanding job of evaluating applications and recommending projects that will have a significant impact in our community,” said Ty Helgason, the City’s Social and Community Development Supervisor. “Projects recommended for funding in the past year have included outreach work, capital investments to support homeless serving projects, culturally safe warming and day spaces, and meals and supplies.”

This call for proposal is to allocate the Reaching Home base funding available in the Designated Communities stream. The total 2022–2024 designated communities funding amounts to $1,324,276.

Designated Communities base funding breakdown per fiscal year:

  • 2022–2023: $662,138
  • 2023-2024: $662,138

All funding recipients must spend their allocated amount between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2024.

To respond to the Reaching Home call for proposal, visit Kamloops.ca/Grants. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, November 26, 2021, at 12:00 pm (noon).
