B.C.’s Damon Motors Inc. is developing globally leading electric motorcycle technology that will advance clean transportation technology and create new jobs with support from the CleanBC Go Electric Advanced Research and Commercialization (ARC) program.

Bruce Ralston, Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, who attended a recent groundbreaking ceremony at Damon Motors’ new manufacturing facility in Surrey, said: “B.C. is home to many innovative clean-tech companies that are helping us grow as a leader in the electric vehicle sector. We’re proud to support Damon Motors, which will help us meet our CleanBC goals and create new good-paying jobs in the province. The strength of the innovative approach Damon Motors exhibits will propel the company toward being a global leader.”

Damon Motors Inc. is an electric motorcycle company that prioritizes rider safety and enhanced performance with its smart, fully connected electric motorcycle designs. Damon Motors is receiving $400,000 from the CleanBC Go Electric ARC program for its modular electric vehicle (EV) powertrain system. With the frame, battery pack and motor as one unit, the powertrain system can be used across multiple motorcycle models, providing customers with more motorcycle designs and options. The powertrain system project alone is expected to create approximately 11 new full-time jobs.

“Through CleanBC, we’re helping innovative clean-tech companies like Damon Motors develop new products that will cut pollution and support good, clean jobs for people,” said George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy. “As more British Columbians switch to electric vehicles, we’re increasing investments in the zero-emission vehicle sector to help meet our climate targets and build a better future.”

Damon Motors Inc. broke ground at its new clean-tech manufacturing, research and development facility in Surrey on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021. The facility will introduce a cleaner, industry-leading manufacturing process and is expected to create more than 500 new jobs.

“Damon Motors is committed to building electric motorcycles that will not only result in a greener future but will have an immediate impact on the world around us,” said Jay Giraud, co-founder and CEO, Damon Motors. “That commitment begins at the manufacturing level and we are proud to bring our clean-tech innovation to Surrey, a forward-thinking city that shares our vision for a cleaner tomorrow.”

The ARC program supports the EV sector in B.C. by providing reliable and targeted support for research and development, commercialization and demonstration of B.C.-based EV technologies, services and products.

CleanBC is a pathway to a more prosperous, balanced and sustainable future. It supports government’s commitment to climate action to meet B.C.’s emission targets and build a cleaner, stronger economy for everyone.
