Casual Shirt Days = Power Savings, Free Popsicles & Casual Shirt Contest! – TRU Newsroom

July 28, 2021 at 9:10 am  Education, Kamloops, News

This year’s 6th Annual TRU Casual Shirt Days is happening for four weeks from July 23 to August 20. Like the rest of the world, TRU has to constantly look for opportunities to reduce energy consumption, so the air conditioning in most campus buildings will be turned up 0.5 degrees making it less cool, and everyone is encouraged to dress more casually for the warm weather. Changing the temperature will save approximately 3% of our electrical energy used for cooling!

As another way to help keep TRU community members cool, free popsicles will be given out to the first 25 people during each Friday of the event from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. Look for the Sustainability Office table outside Old Main near Convocation Wall. While you’re there you can:

To enter the weekly Casual Shirt Contest, take a photo of yourself in your favourite shirt based on the weekly themes listed to the right, and email it to the event coordinator Simran Kaur (simkaur@tru.ca), or post it to the following sites by the end of each of the five Fridays of the event: Facebook (Facebook.com/TRUSustainability), Twitter (@TRUSustain), or Instagram (@TRUSustain) using #TRUCasualShirtDay. Winners will be announced the following Monday and take home a great weekly prize pack.

Throughout the event, if you have any gently worn and clean shirts that you don’t want, please leave them at the Sustainability Office table during one of the five Fridays and they will be donated to a local thrift store.

Contact the event coordinator Simran Kaur at the TRU Sustainability Office with any questions or comments about this event (simkaur@tru.ca).
