Columbia Corridor Upgrades Close McGill Intersection

Columbia Corridor Upgrades Close McGill Intersection

July 16, 2021 at 4:17 pm  Kamloops, Municipal, News

As work progresses along Columbia Street West as part of the Columbia Corridor Upgrades, the City is advising residents of an upcoming, impactful road closure at McGill Road and Columbia Street West.

In order to conduct water main tie-ins, the east side of the McGill Road/Columbia Street West intersection will be closed starting Sunday, July 18, at 6:00 pm. The road is anticipated to reopen the morning of Tuesday, July 20.

During daytime hours (7:00 am to 6:00 pm), the traffic signals at McGill Road and Columbia Street West will be turned off, and the intersection will be controlled by traffic control personnel. Westbound traffic on McGill Road will be permitted through the intersection; however, there will be no through traffic eastbound on McGill Road. From 6:00 pm to 7:00 am, the road will be fully closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic, with a detour in place via the Columbia Street West frontage road to Pemberton Terrace.

Transit will also be detoured off of McGill Road to Arrowstone Drive, with temporary stops in place.

See all of the traffic impacts and detour maps at LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/Columbia.

Following the work at the McGill Road intersection, crews will start milling and paving Columbia Street West. Notre Dame Drive between Summit Drive and Columbia Street West, will reopen to traffic this weekend, including transit. Paving will take place in the following weeks.

We understand how disruptive construction can be, and we appreciate your patience. Please use caution and courtesy when driving in the construction area, and obey all traffic control devices and personnel.
