June survey shows BC employment levels surpassed pre-pandemic numbers — labour experts – TRU Newsroom
TRU has experts who can discuss results of the June Labour Force Survey that showed employment grew by 42,100 jobs in BC, which means 17,000 more British Columbians are now working than in February 2020, when the pandemic hit. BC’s unemployment rate is one of the lowest in the country at 6.6 percent, well below the national average of 7.8 percent.
Dr. Meng Sun is an assistant teaching professor in TRU’s School of Business and Economics. He studies the causes and consequences of labour productivity. His research investigates whether government policies such as minimum wage can help to improve labour productivity, with special focus on workers’ effort provision.
Dr. Ehsan Latif is a professor of economics in TRU’s School of Business and Economics, who has interest in a broad range of areas, including the economics of aging, of immigration and of happiness and wellbeing. He can discuss the state of the Canadian economy, job skills and training, and labour economics.
