City of Kamloops Re-Activates Emergency Operations Centre After Fire Flares Up
Kamloops, BC – The City of Kamloops has re-activated its Emergency Operations Centre in support of the Kamloops East interface fire after the fire flared up Friday afternoon.
The City has established a unified command with Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR), RCMP, BC Ambulance and BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) to respond with all available resources, including air assets.
There are currently no evacuation orders in effect.
“There are no immediate threats to homes at the moment,” said KFR Fire Chief Steve Robinson, noting that residents may choose to stay elsewhere with family or friends.
“We are hitting this with everything we can and we will remain vigilant and keep residents and the public updated throughout this event,” he added.
BCWS has multiple air assets dropping water buckets and fire retardant in the area, and KFR is supporting the effort from the ground.
The City reminds all residents and businesses to immediately cease all irrigation to protect water supply for the fire crews.
The fires were caused by numerous lightning strikes in the Kamloops area last night.
For updates on this incident, please watch the emergency alerts posted on Kamloops.ca, or call 250-828-3461.
