City of Kamloops and Kamloops Arts Council Announce Virtual Kamloops Canada Day 2021
“We are excited to be able to bring a virtual Canada Day event to the residents of Kamloops. We have been working with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) to include important remarks, information, and cultural elements,” said Dewi Evans, the City’s Community Events Coordinator. “We are most grateful to our community partners who have contributed to our programming, especially TteS who have so many important responsibilities at this time.”
“The annual event in Riverside Park draws tens of thousands of people, so we know it’s a popular event. Last year, we dipped our toe in the virtual world with strong support, and we plan to once again entertain and provide learning opportunities for residents from the comfort of their own homes. We hope the virtual event will bring a sense of community togetherness and national unity, just as our annual event in the park would,” added Evans.
“We’ve secured a strong line-up of performances by local groups, including the Ukrainian Dancers, Canada Wide Drumming, and the Big Little Science Centre,” said Brie Fernando, the Kamloops Art Council’s Program Coordinator. “In addition, there will be interactive activities for the whole family, ranging from yoga to culinary art.”
Interactive activities that are planned for the kids (and kids at heart) include a science experiment, a dance tutorial, and a memorable performance by Uncle Chris the Clown. A list of supplies for the activities will be listed on Kamloops.ca/CanadaDay.
The City extends a special thank you to the Kamloops Arts Council for organizing the Virtual Canada Day festivities and to Heritage Canada for funding the event. We look forward to the welcoming residents back to Riverside Park for live performances and activities in 2022.
