The Tyee interviewed four academics, including Shelly Johnson from TRU, to talk about the issues and complications around verifying claims of Indigeneity. Across Canada, universities and colleges are striving to decolonize and indigenize, making efforts to include Indigenous culture, history and ways of knowing into their curriculums, as well as hire more Indigenous faculty and staff. But some people claiming Indigenous backgrounds have proven to have faked or overplayed their geneology. Read more
