Highway 95 traffic pattern improvements in Golden
Upgrades have been made to two major intersections on Highway 95 in Golden to improve safety and traffic flow for people using the highway.
Before the end of March, weather permitting, a new traffic signal at 6th Street North will be activated and signalized dedicated left-turn lanes at 9th Street South will go into operation.
These traffic pattern changes will help traffic flow in Golden, particularly during extended closures of the Trans-Canada Highway for the Kicking Horse Canyon Project.
Other recent upgrades include enhanced pedestrian crossings and the realignment of the S-bend near Park Drive to improve the southern approach to the Kicking Horse bridges.
During extended Highway 1 closures, through traffic will be rerouted via Highway 93S and Highway 95. To minimize travel disruptions, closures have been scheduled for times when traffic is lighter.
The first 24/7 extended closure will occur from April 12 to May 14, followed by 24-hour closures on non-holiday weekdays to the end of May.
The Kicking Horse Canyon Project is being delivered under the Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) and is designed to maximize opportunities to develop and grow the skilled labour workforce in the province.
The CBA prioritizes hiring and rehiring local workers, Indigenous peoples, women, people with disabilities and members of other under-represented groups who are qualified to do the work in a safe, respectful environment. It increases opportunities for apprentices to work on site and gain the experience they need to move toward completing their certification.
