Connect: All Faculties Career Mentoring

When is it?
Tuesday, March 30, 2021. 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm PST.

Where?
Virtual. Join from anywhere you have a quiet space and an internet connection. You will need a webcam, headphones/speakers, and a microphone.

What does a Career Mentor do?
Attend the virtual event as a mentor.
Share the story of your career path with interested students.
Give tips and advice to students based on your own experience.
This is just a one-time, 90-minute commitment.

What is it like?
This is a speed-networking style event. You will sit at a virtual table (or breakout room), and a small group of one to three students will “sit” with you and chat for eight to 12 minutes. When the time is up the students move along and you will get a new small group of students to chat with. We do four to five rotations throughout the event.

Why?
Our research has found that speaking with industry professionals results in increased career knowledge and career confidence in students. These events are invaluable to current students to learn that career paths rarely go directly from “Point A” to “Point B”.

How can I get involved?
Please complete our Mentor Registration Form, located here: https://www.tru.ca/current/jobs-careers/mentoring/mentor-registration-form.html .

It takes a few minutes, but it will help us ensure you are appropriately represented to the students attending.

If you are interested, please register by March 15, 2021. If you want to participate in future Career Mentoring events but cannot attend this time, please complete the “Alumni Contact Update” form and select “I am interested in volunteering as a Career Mentor”. That way we will invite you to relevant future Career Mentoring events.
