City Launches Engagement Efforts for the Parking Management Plan

February 16, 2021 at 9:12 am  Kamloops, Municipal, News

Kamloops BC – The City of Kamloops is launching engagement efforts for the Parking Management Plan (PMP) after the project was temporarily put on hold by the COVID-19 pandemic. Data collection resumed last fall to analyze parking in the study areas of the Downtown and the Tranquille business corridor.

The PMP will identify the existing state of parking while addressing the on- and off-street parking challenges in the Downtown and the Tranquille business corridor. The PMP will ultimately address stakeholders’ and the public’s parking-related questions/concerns while proactively connecting the full cost of parking with environmental impacts, including strategies to support growth and development that are sensitive to the city’s social well-being and long-term vision.

The study is a direct result of the Downtown Transportation Choices Strategy brought to Council in 2019. Information collected through recent City studies such as the Downtown Transportation Choices Strategy, Transportation Master Plan, and Downtown Plan are being used to form the initial baseline for this plan.

The City of Kamloops is seeking stakeholder and public input to inform the PMP. The feedback will help to ensure the plan fully responds to and represents the vision and voice of our community. The completed plan will be presented to Council this summer for adoption.

How to Get Engaged

There are multiple ways to get involved and provide your feedback:

  • surveys for the Downtown and North Shore study areas – open for input until March 14, 2021
  • virtual information session with the project management team
    • North Shore Parking Session: March 11, 12:00–1:00 pm on Zoom
    • Downtown Parking Session: March  12, 12:00–1:00 pm on Zoom
