Kispiox Bridge open to light traffic
Drivers are advised that the Kispiox Bridge opened to passenger vehicles, or ones less than 8 tonnes in weight, last night at approximately 8 p.m.
Drivers can expect delays. Traffic is single lane and alternating.
There are no detours available at this time for heavier vehicles.
The bridge remains open to pedestrians, but people are asked to be cautious when crossing near work crews and equipment.
Ministry engineers and crews are working around the clock to reopen the bridge to all traffic as quickly as possible.
Ministry staff closed the bridge, which is approximately 15 kilometres north of Hazelton, to vehicle traffic following damage from a vehicle incident on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021.
On-site ministry staff have met with the Kispiox Band and are providing frequent updates and assistance.
The ministry is working closely with Emergency Management BC and its partners, the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine and regional first responders, and are on standby to provide any emergency services that may be needed.
Drivers are encouraged to check DriveBC.ca for the most up-to-date information before travel and are reminded to obey posted speed limits, traffic control devices and flag persons.
