How long have you been doing your art: I have been artistic my whole life, but a gentleman never gives up his age. Photography since 2015.
What got you originally interested in the art you do: I was always fascinated with the art projects my parents worked on. Crafts or architecture. Painting and drawing. Now, I am a Graphic Designer and Freelance Photographer. I don’t have to clean brushes, pencils or paint supplies. Just keep the firm/software updated and keep the dust fluids off the camera and computer.
What is something you have learned about yourself through your art: Doing art makes me feel good. I can express myself the way I want, in my own style. Not everyone will like what you do, but those who do, do. Focus on art that makes you feel good first. If you share your art with the public, even better. Oh, and a thick skin, don’t take criticism too personally, those who don’t like your art, don’t get it. Keep going.
What do you enjoy the most about your art: It comes natural to me. People always say “I wish I could do that” – so why not? Go-do-art. Practice makes perfect.
What is your favorite joke/quote: Since this may be a family program, I will keep my jokes and puns off of the table here. However, my favourite quote; “Better to try and fail than to never try at all.”
What is something most people don’t know about you: Let’s keep it that way 😉
If you could teach everyone one art medium or method, what would it be, why: Photography. I’m tossing around the idea of holding technical workshops for those wanting to be better at taking photos. Right now I am working on my business so the workshop idea is on the back burner. Unless someone twists my arm to startup a workshop series.
What do you think makes art important: It makes people feel and explore feelings they didn’t know they had before. Photography is easy, but good photography that evokes emotion is even better.
Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council: I believe we all need art in our life. The Kamloops Arts Council brings art to the people.
What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year: So many things; getting my business of freelance photography going, submitting fine art photographs to competitions and galleries, continue to network, to find like minded people and work on special projects collaboratively, to continue personal projects, etc. etc…
