Tranquille Road Partially Reopens to Traffic Between Southill Street and Holt Street Starting October 17

October 14, 2020 at 12:49 pm  Kamloops, Municipal, News

Kamloops, BC – Effective October 17, Tranquille Road will be partially reopened to traffic (one lane each direction) between Southill Street and Holt Street. The intersections of Desmond Street/Tranquille Road and Holt Street/Tranquille Road will be reopened as all-way stops (signals will be flashing red). Landscape restoration and electrical work will continue throughout this section of Tranquille Road, and motorists are reminded that the posted 30 km/hr speed limit remains in effect 24 hours a day.

Starting October 17, transit buses will be back on Tranquille Road through the construction zone from Southill Street to Nicolani Drive. Most bus stops will be reopened. Transit riders should check NextRide.Kamloops.BCTransit.com or refer to the transit map on LetsTalk.kamloops.ca/Tranquille.

To accommodate sanitary sewer work, Tranquille Road between Singh Street and Cambridge Court will be closed to all traffic except people with driveways that access this section of Tranquille Road, emergency services vehicles, and transit. Traffic detours will be in place. Motorists are reminded to use caution and to watch for pedestrians.

The Dangerous Goods Route remains temporarily rerouted to Ord Road until further notice.

Traffic webcams are in place on Tranquille Road at Desmond Street, at Southill Street, and at Holt Street. All traffic and transit detour maps and webcams can be viewed at LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/Tranquille.

We thank you for your patience. While every attempt is made to minimize the impact on residents, business owners, motorists, transit users, and pedestrians during construction, delays and congestion are inevitable and should be expected.

The Tranquille Road Sanitary Main Upgrade Project Phase 2 involves replacing the sanitary gravity main along Tranquille Road from Southill Street to 12th Street and upgrades along the corridor, including pedestrian paths, landscaping, and intersection and boulevard improvements. The project was originally slated to start in March of this year, but it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project started in May 2020 and is anticipated to be complete in fall 2021.
