City of Kamloops Confirms Positive COVID-19 Case

September 2, 2020 at 12:00 pm  Kamloops, Municipal, News

The City of Kamloops has confirmed a positive COVID-19 test in a City staff person. However, this COVID-positive case did not result in any contacts at the City.

“This is a situation where City employees were near someone who had tested positive for COVID,” said David Trawin. ”However, public health officials found that, because of the physical distancing and cleaning protocols that we have put in place, none of the employees who may have been exposed are at risk and they are not considered to be contacts.”

A message was passed along to the City from the Chief Medical Health Officer for Interior Health that noted that the City’s COVID safety protocols were effective at preventing those employees exposed from becoming COVID contacts.

“This is evidence that our safety protocols are working and they are crucial to our efforts at keeping our employees and the public as protected as we can,” said Trawin. “We remind everyone to be vigilant and continue to practice physical distancing, cleaning, and handwashing, and to stay home when ill—all the efforts that you have been making to keep yourself and each other safe.”

The City is following and will continue to follow Public Health guidelines for managing exposures within our workplace and the community.  We will continue to be open and transparent in our updates to our employees and our community.

The City encourages everyone to be even more diligent as flu season approaches. If anyone is concerned about their health, they should contacted 811.
