Tournament Capital Returns to Hosting with Weekend Throws Competition
Kamloops, BC – The City of Kamloops is excited to see the return of competition to the Tournament Capital with the Kamloops Throws Meet #2, which will take place at Hillside Stadium on August 1 and 2, 2020. Kamloops will be the first city to host a sanctioned club competition in the sport of athletics since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our athletes are beyond excited for this opportunity,” said Dylan Armstrong, Throws Coach for the Kamloops Track and Field Club (KTFC). “Athletes will be able to track official marks and results that are eligible for provincial and national records and rankings.”
The KTFC has worked closely with Athletics Canada, BC Athletics, and viaSport to develop guidelines for safe competitions that follow current BC Health guidelines. These guidelines include gathering limits (maximum 50 people), physical distancing and hygiene measures, and daily symptom screening. For this reason, no spectators will be permitted at the event.
“We are thrilled to begin our gradual and thoughtful return to safe event and competition hosting in Kamloops,” said Sean Smith, the City’s Business Operations and Events Supervisor. “The KTFC and our Parks and Facility crews have worked hard to prepare for a successful event that is safe for the athletes and our community.”
This event will be followed by Kamloops Throws Meet #3 (August 7 and 8) and Kamloops Throws Meet #4 (August 13). In accordance with public health guidelines, spectators will not be permitted until further notice. To learn more about these events, visit KamTrack.ca.
