Member of the Month – Kamloops Arts Council
Name: Eva Soukoreff
Medium: Oils
How long have you been doing your art?
Since 5 years old.
What got you originally interested in the art you do:
It was something natural, something I just loved to do as a child, drawing, especially horses for my classmates.
What is something you have learned about yourself through your art:
Without art, I would be sad. Art enriches life and is different in every culture and city on earth. Art doesn’t die, what was beautiful and intriguing thousands of years ago is still the same today. To me art includes so many endless things including music, architecture and jewellery design. But it has to be original, made by the artist, sketched out, sweated out, and absolutely not factory made.
What do you enjoy the most about your art?
To see an idea come to life with great colours. It’s a great feeling when it turns out better than expected. I love the mood of black and white paintings too.
What is your favourite joke/quote?
Picasso said: “It took me four years to paint like Raphael and a lifetime to paint like a child”.
If you could teach everyone one art medium or method, what would it be, why:
Sketching is a good thing to start with, getting the right perspective on things. From the art of sketching, art can go down a million different paths from wood working to watercolour.
What is something most people don’t know about you:
I teach also teach Piano and rich, creamy Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream is my choice of a treat.
Why are you a member of Kamloops Arts Council:
The Kamloops Art Council is amazing. Without a good organized council, the art community is on there own with no one to help them. A good art council builds a strong community that adds layers and complexity to the fabric of a City.
What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year?
Time to paint more and explore much more of the beautiful surrounding areas.
