The Mustard Seed Kamloops Set to Reopen Thrift Store

January 26, 2020 at 12:26 pm  Community, Kamloops, News

Kamloops, BC – The Mustard Seed Kamloops is now accepting gently used clothing, décor, jewellery, small household items, and more in preparation for the Spring 2020 reopening of the Mustard Seed Thrift Store, located at 346 Seymour Street in Kamloops.

The vision for the refreshed social enterprise is to have an upscale thrift store with an adjoining coffee shop (scheduled to open later 2020) to serve the community and The Mustard Seed programs. A new coordinator has been hired to make that vision a reality. Diana Corriveau brings extensive experience in retail and a passion for helping people, which makes her the perfect fit to bring a new look to The Mustard Seed Thrift Store.

“The Mustard Seed Thrift Store will be a huge asset to our community,” says Corriveau. “My goal is to get donor’s treasures into loving homes, while generating revenue to provide much needed funds for our Mustard Seed patrons. Having moved from Eastern Canada 6 months ago, I am inspired by the generous, kind-hearted, loving community members that live here. I am looking forward to meeting and serving customers from this amazing city.”

The Mustard Seed Thrift Store will support many programs including a new employment program, which uses employment coaches dedicated to helping people find jobs. The coaches help clients update their resumes, practice interview skills, and provide the encouragement men and women need to believe in themselves.

There will also be volunteer and employment opportunities made available to patrons of the newly launched Men’s Sober Living Facility at The Mustard Seed. “Residents can volunteer 9-12 hours per week for the first few months,” said Mario Borba, managing director, The Mustard Seed Kamloops. “After volunteering for a few months there will be opportunities for them to be employed and all proceeds from the social enterprise will either pay for salaries or to be reinvested in the Mustard Seed programs.”

Effective January 22, 2020, community members can drop off their gently used treasures at one of two Mustard Seed Locations:
346 Seymour Street: Monday-Friday between 8:30am-4:30pm
181 Victoria Street: Tuesday-Saturday between 11:00am-7:00pm
