Premier’s statement on Firefighters’ National Memorial Day

Premier’s statement on Firefighters’ National Memorial Day

September 8, 2019 at 8:25 am  BC, News, Politics

Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in honour of Firefighters’ National Memorial Day:

“Today, on Firefighters’ National Memorial Day, British Columbians honour the brave firefighters who lost their lives while working to protect others.

“Our hearts go out to those who are grieving for loved ones who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and to those who have suffered injuries, traumas and illnesses.

“Firefighters’ jobs encompass much more than fighting fires. Often the first to arrive on the scene of an emergency, firefighters require remarkable skill, as well as mental and physical strength, to quickly respond to difficult and complex situations.

“It takes a special kind of person to be willing to run towards danger and risk their own lives to keep others safe.

“The Province of B.C. recognizes the incredible selflessness, courage and expertise firefighters demonstrate every day, and we thank them for their commitment to serving B.C.

“We also acknowledge those who have worked unwaveringly over these past few years of unprecedented wildfires to keep people and communities safe.

“Thank you to all the firefighters in British Columbia and beyond for everything you do to safeguard the people we love, our homes and communities.

“The Canadian flag at the B.C. Parliament Buildings will be flown at half-mast on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, from sunrise to sunset.

“As you have protected us, we support and honour you.”
