Kamloops Symphony Announces New Executive Director
KAMLOOPS, B.C. – The Board of Directors of the Kamloops Symphony Society are pleased to announce the selection of Daniel Mills as the new Executive Director.
“The Board of Directors are very excited to announce this appointment,” says Miki Andrejevic, President of the Kamloops Symphony Society. “Daniel brings with him an array of arts administrative and fundraising experience. We trust he will, together with Music Director Dina Gilbert, help lead the KSO onto further development and excellence.”
Born and raised in Calgary, Daniel Mills is an emerging arts leader with a background as both an administrator and performer.
Mills comes to Kamloops from Arts Commons, Calgary’s major performing arts centre, where he oversaw their individual giving programs and donor stewardship. He also previously held administrative positions at the Honens International Piano Competition, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre. Daniel recently completed his Master of Business Administration at the University of Calgary. This degree gave him the opportunity to do consulting work for various non-profit organizations, and to study at Vienna, Austria.
Mills is also an active classical trumpet player, having completed music degrees from McGill University and the University of Ottawa, and studied with many of Canada’s leading trumpet players.
Outside of his life in the performing arts, Mills is a recreational runner and triathlete. He eagerly anticipates joining the Kamloops multi-sport community and enjoying the training opportunities the Thompson Valley will provide.
Says Mills, “It is a great honour to be joining a cultural institution that has such an evident importance to the community. I very much look forward to learning what the Kamloops Symphony means to the Thompson Valley, and how we can together continue its legacy as a source of civic pride. Equally, I eagerly anticipate engaging in meaningful relationships with all of the Symphony’s stakeholders, and determining how collaboration between our partners and patrons can help us achieve sustainable growth for the community as a whole.”
Daniel Mills will be taking over from longtime Executive Director Kathy Humphreys, and begins his new role on June 17.
